Central Belt coverage

Most shower doors are sold in fixed sizes, so you end up building the bathroom around the door. This one works the other way round. Tell us the opening and we cut the glass to it, on the same CNC machines we have used for glass balustrades, splashbacks and shop fronts since 1969.

The door hangs on a pair of offset back plate hinges fixed to the wall, so there is no frame and no bottom track. Nothing to trap dirt, nothing to catch a foot on. It swings in or out.

Every panel is toughened after cutting, which means the size, the polished edges and any cut outs are all finished before the glass goes anywhere near the furnace. That is why we cannot alter a panel afterwards, and why it is worth taking two minutes over the measurements.

Good to know

  • Doors up to 700mm wide hang on two hinges. Anything wider gets a third, up to our maximum size of 811 × 2000mm.
  • The knob cut out is machined before the glass is toughened, so the hardware has to be settled at the point of order.
  • Openings are rarely square, which is why we ask you to measure in three places and work from the smallest.

Every door is supplied complete:

  • The toughened glass panel, cut to your sizes and polished on all four edges
  • Shower door knob
  • Side seals and bottom seal
  • P1N344 adjustable wall mounted offset back plates, two or three depending on the width

All hardware in {finish-lc}. You supply the drill and the level.

Measure in three places

Openings are rarely square, so take the width at the top, the centre and the bottom, and take the height at the left, the centre and the right.

What we do with them

Work from your smallest width and smallest height, then take 20mm off the width and 10mm off the height. That is what gives the door room to swing, the seals somewhere to sit, and clearance on the hinge side. Enter those figures on this page.

If the readings do not match

If your widths differ by more than 10mm, it is worth altering the opening so both sides are parallel. A door is a rectangle, so a badly out of square opening will leave a visible gap down one edge no matter how well it is made.

Check the floor too. If it falls away from the shower, make sure the door will not catch on it when it is fully open.

If the ceiling is not level

Tick the box on this page and give us both heights. We taper the top edge to suit. The bottom edge is always cut square.

Handle height

If you want the knob at a particular height, give us the measurement from the bottom edge of the glass rather than from the floor. It needs to sit at least 50mm from the top and bottom edges. Leave it blank and we will fit it halfway up.

Before you order

Tile first, then measure. A tiled wall can move the opening by 20mm or more, and glass cannot be trimmed once it is toughened.

And if you are not sure

Advice costs nothing. Call 0141 554 0011 and we will happily talk it through. We also survey electronically across the Central Belt if you would rather we took the measurements.

Made to order panels take around 10 working days to manufacture. Delivery is arranged after that, on the first available date for your area.

Delivery is £60 to mainland UK. We do not deliver to the Highlands and Islands. For an island address we can deliver to a transport company on the mainland and they arrange onward shipping, though you would need to tell us which company to use. Delivering anywhere else, get in touch and we will sort something out.

You will be given time to check the glass for damage while the driver is there, and it is signed for accordingly. Damage has to be noted at that point.

An order can be cancelled up to two days after it is placed, provided nothing has been processed or cut. Glass cut to your sizes is excluded from the 14 day cancellation rights that apply to our stock items, so it cannot be returned or exchanged for a change of mind.

If something is faulty or is not what you ordered, put it in writing and we will inspect it. Full terms are on our Terms and Conditions page.

A competent fitter will hang one of these in an hour or two. The hinges are drilled into the wall and the glass drops into them.

We do not offer a guarantee beyond your statutory rights. Made to measure warranty claims are handled as set out in our Terms and Conditions: in writing, goods returned to our factory, inspected within two working days.

Prefer us to do it? We measure, make and fit across the Central Belt. Ask for a supplied and fitted quote.

Not sure it will fit?

Send us the opening and a photo of the space. We will tell you whether a hinged door is right, or whether a fixed panel would work better.

Need more than a door?

Doors with inline panels, corner enclosures and over bath screens are all priced through the designer.
