Glass Splashbacks and Worktops

Glass splashbacks and worktops are continuing to gain in popularity as an addition to many kitchens and bathrooms. With a fantastic modern appearance the panels can be done in a vast range of colours to match any interior. Being a tough durable product which is hygienic and easy to clean, it will keep its crisp look for years to come.

We specialise in the manufacture of back- painted glass splashbacks and worktops. From receiving your order to the product being despatched we undertake all manufacturing processes and painting at our Glasgow premises.

With our state of the art computerised machines, we can produce glass with cut outs, notches and shapes to accommodate sockets, light switches, cooker hoods, under mount sinks, hobs, taps, shower controls etc. Drawings can be electronically sent to us or we can digitise your templates. The glass is then manufactured on one of our CNC machines.

We provide a full on site Template & Fit service in the Central Belt of Scotland. We will electronically take site measurements, produce the panels, then return to site and fit the glass. Outwith the Central Belt we can arrange delivery for you to have the glass fitted by a local fitter.

We recommend that all panels behind the hob are made from toughened glass. Our glass is toughened to the British and European Standard 12150 Class 1(c)1 which results in a product five times stronger than non toughened [float] glass.

Our acrylic resin based paint is UV stable, fire resistant, suitable for textured glass, can be used outdoors, has passed an adhesion strength test and carries a 10 year guarantee.

Experience has taught us that choosing a colour can be difficult, from this we have produced a sample bank of 28 standard colours to choose from. If you don't find a colour to suit from our standard range, that's no problem! We can produce a colour to match most RAL or BS colours. We use a highly transparent extra clear low iron glass for accurate colour matching. Painted samples can be produced on request or why not start by visiting our showroom to see the displays and our sample bank of standard colours.

Measuring Guide for Splashbacks and Worktops

Measuring and Templating Advice

This advice applies to kitchen splashbacks, worktops and bathroom wall panels, even if you feel confident about taking sizes you might just pick up a handy tip if you read this through before you start. Time spent measuring up will reflect on the finished job.

Templating
Templates should be taken ideally in 6mm MDF and be exactly to the size required without any + or - tolerances. Any cut outs, holes or notches should be taken out of the templates to the exact size required. If your templates are not suitable e.g. if they are made from cardboard or are not to the exact size we will insist on replacements. Remember, the better your template fits, the better the finished job will look.

Measuring
Firstly, check all worktops or showers with a good spirit level. If the base surface is not level we can cut the glass out of square so the vertical edges are plum and parallel. First draw a level horizontal line on your wall, approximately in the middle of its height, now take four sizes, see diagram below.

figure 1

You can now check your width in the same way using a plum vertical line, see diagram below.

figure 2

Do not measure too tightly as glass does not bend and unlike wood you cannot plane some off if it’s too tight. The industry standard is + or – 2mm but we always endeavour to be + or – 0mm.

Bear in mind at all times that the glass will sit on the highest point of the wall and few walls are perfectly flat. When glass is going around corners you may have to add or subtract 8mm for the thickness of the glass and adhesive, dependant on whether it is an internal or external corner, see diagram.

figure 3

Sockets
When measuring for sockets we prefer to have the dimensions to the centre of the socket in both the width and the height. Socket cut outs are generally standard:-

  • Single socket cut outs are 75mm x 75mm.
  • Double socket cut outs are 135mm x 75mm

Sockets cut outs ideally should be at least 50mm from the edge of the glass and 50mm apart.

Now this is all done, only one thing remain!. Do it all again or have a second person check it for you. As a wise old man used to tell me “measure twice, cut only once”.

If you follow this advice your painted splashbacks will get admiring remarks from everyone who sees them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q How do we obtain a quote?
A You can either fill out the online enquiry form, or call into the showroom. Remember the more accurate the information you provide the more accurate your estimate will be.

Q What colours can we have the glass painted?
A We can paint to all RAL, BS or Pantone number as well as most Dulux colours. There are links to Ral and Dulux charts on our website.

Q Who fits the glass?
A Many people tackle it themselves or we can arrange the full templating and fitting service for you.

Q Will you be able to make cut outs for sockets etc?
A Yes we will make all the cut outs for sockets and for going around cabinets. We can also drill holes to accommodate taps or cooker hoods.

Q Will the glass be toughened and heat resistant?
A In order to keep the cost down we normally only supply toughened for behind the hob which can withstand heat up to 240° . Experience has taught us that toughened is not necessary for other areas of the kitchen.

Q Do I need to provide templates?
A We can work from either drawings or templates. If you are supplying templates they should be made to the exact size from 6mm mdf.

Q What is the largest piece you can provide?
A Dependant on what shape and notches are required on the piece we can supply a max size of 3210 x 2550, although this is not a practical size for most people to handle.

Q Can painted glass be used in bathrooms and showers?
A Yes very much so and it eliminates grout lines that start to look dirty over time.

Q How long will my painted glass take to make?
A Dependant on the complexity of the piece, simple rectangles take approximately 10 days and the more complex shapes 3 weeks approximately.

Q Can I get a sample of the colour I have chosen?
A Yes samples can be ordered from our website or in our showroom.

Q Do you have any examples of splashbacks in your showroom?
A Yes, we have full size kitchen and bathroom displays showing different coloured splashbacks.
