However you use glass, it is essential for safety and performance reasons that it is specified and installed correctly. We carry several different types of glass. Which one best fits your needs?
Safety glass is most commonly either laminated or toughened. Laminated when broken, holds together similar to a car windscreen providing an element of security as well as safety.
Toughened glass whilst being five times stronger than untoughened glass, will break into small safe pieces similar to how the glass in a bus shelter breaks.. Unlike safety glass, when non safety glass breaks, it usually breaks into larger pieces which can sometimes cause injury. Non safety glass is normally used in windows which are more than 800mm from the finished floor level or in any non- critical locations.

As Cut With Sharp Edges: When a piece of glass is cut from a sheet, the edges are sharp and therefore termed as having ‘as cut edges’. Glass of this type would normally only be used if it is being fitted into a frame where the edges will not be exposed e.g. a house window or picture frame.
Polished Edges: A polished edge creates a small chamfer on the top and bottom edges of the glass, making the edge safe to touch. A polished edge is required when the edges of the glass will be exposed eg. Table tops or mirror fitted directly onto walls
Bevelled Edge: The bevelling of glass creates a very elegant look and is often used on table tops, mirrors or door glass. The bevelling process removes an angular portion of the glass edge. Bevelled edges are available in different widths and catch the light, enhancing the appearance of the glass.
Choose the required edge finish for each edge of your chosen shape as below.
When you click on 'Next Step' you will be asked if you want to upload a drawing.
Upload your drawing to illustrate holes, fingergrips, cut outs and decorative glass in jpeg, PDF or Word file format. CAD or Autosketch drawings are also accepted. They will automatically be sent to us when you submit this quote request.
Drawings do not need to be submitted at this stage but we can provide a more accurate quote if they are.
Holes drilled in glass are available in a variety of different diameters and may be required for various reasons eg. To take a screw or possibly attach something to the glass, like a bracket.
Do you need any holes drilled into your piece?
No Yes
A finger grip is a ground out section on the surface of the glass creating an indentation to allow you to slide the glass more easily from side to side. The most commonly seen example of this is the sliding glass doors on the chip shop ranges.
Do you need any fingergrips in your piece?
A cut out in glass is a when a section of glass is removed, most commonly a square or rectangle at either the edge, corner or within a piece of glass. Cut outs are required when a piece of glass has to go over or round about something that cannot be moved eg. a socket or light switch.
Do you need any cutouts in your piece?
Add a design code for decorative glass:
If you do not have a design code you can visit our decorative glass section, where you can get required design codes from our selection of PDF brochures.
