How to Clean Wooden Wardrobe Doors

However clean you keep your home, it’s simply a fact that over time your wooden doors will build up dust and grime. Regular cleaning will keep this to a minimum but for some reason cleaning interior doors regularly gets overlooked even though they are one of the most visible parts of the home. The process for thorough cleaning is slightly different depending on whether your doors are varnished or painted.

Cleaning Varnished Wooden Doors

Varnished wooden doors are perhaps the most popular internal door in UK. Keeping them clean will keep your home looking tidy and create a much more welcoming environment.

  1. Dust every surface of your doors with a soft cloth or a feather duster. Don’t forget the tops of the doors and frames.
  2. Rub tough to remove grime with a damp cloth but be sure to dry with a dry cloth immediately afterwards. The varnish is most likely not waterproof and prolonged exposure to moisture can be very bad for wood.
  3. If you’re not satisfied with your doors after cleaning with a damp cloth, consider using a wood cleaner.
  4. To finish, use a furniture polish with a soft cloth. This will bring the doors back to a nice shine, just like new.

Cleaning Painted Wooden Doors

Painted wooden doors are also a popular choice for interior doors in the home. The method of cleaning them is a little different but if anything, a little easier.

  1. Dust thoroughly with a soft cloth or feather duster. Remove as much as you can so that the excess grime is clearly visible.
  2. Use a general purpose household cleaner diluted with water to remove any tougher grime.
  3. There is less of a concern about damaging the wood in the case of painted doors but you should still aim to dry and polish the doors with a soft cloth as soon as possible.
